Tesla Model Y Sales Rebound in China

Tesla Model Y cars surpassed the cheaper Model 3

Sales of Tesla’s Model Y, which is manufactured in China, more than doubled from April to May.

According to a report from Bloomberg News, Tesla moved 12,785 Model Y cars last month, surpassing the cheaper Model 3’s 9,324. Sales numbers tumbled in April due to some production lines at Tesla’s Shanghai factory being suspended for two weeks for “maintenance and adjustment.” Some concerns have arisen over the last few months about Tesla’s appeal in China after a protest at Shanghai auto show in April and “a spate of crashes,” but data from the country’s Passenger Car Association shows Tesla’s shipments to China rebounded in the month of May.

The Passenger Car Association is projecting an increase in interest in larger cars such as the Model Y, bumping its outlook for total new-energy vehicle sales up slightly to 2.4 million.
